Gus's Diner is named after Costas "Gus" Stavredes, who came to America from Greece in 1921 at the age of20. He worked for several years in other restaurants and grocery stores to learn the business and the English language. In June 1927, he opened up his own restaurant in Richmond VA, called the Rainbow Inn. The Rainbow Inn quickly became a local favorite due to it's cold beer, famous housemade sandwiches and meals along with Gus's somewhat dry humor. Gus, and his brother-in-law, Steve Linardos, ran the business for 48 years until his retirement in July 1975.

His youngest grandson, Kevin, would often times visit from North Carolina. He would "help" serve sodas and sandwiches to some of the regulars. It was at this time that the restaurant and entrepreneurial bug bit into Gus's grandson.

Kevin first became familiar with Lake Gaston while in college when one of his fraternity brothers, Steve, invited him on a family trip to Lake Gaston. The "Lake Life" and the community really grabbed his interest. Kevin and his wife kept visiting Steve and his wife, who had built a house on Gaston. Eventually Kevin and his wife built on Gaston, which has now become their home away from home.

Now on the 96th anniversary of when his grandfather opened his restaurant, we bring you Gus's Diner. We are excited to be part of the Gaston community and serving up some old favorites along with some new unique dishes fresh from scratch. To help do so, we have teamed up with several family-owned and local suppliers to bring in the freshest and highest quality products for you to enjoy.

If you've enjoyed your meal, then tell your waitstaff or owners, Yaisou!
